What Is An Indian Head Massage?
Indian head massage (“Champi” in Hindi) is a practice that was introduced over a thousand years ago in India.
Indian mothers used to massage their daughters hair with a variety of different oils to encourage long, lustrous locks.
It was also used to ease tension and strain in the shoulders, neck, scalp and face.
The Indian head massage is known for:
- Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage to the head, neck, scalp, face and shoulder areas
- A deep relaxing sense
- Relief from headaches and migraines
- Relaxation of the muscles
- Improved concentration and memory
- Relief of anxiety/insomnia
- Healthy Skin
- An increased confidence and improved self-esteem
The treatment lasts about 20 – 30 minutes and it is important that the patient remains seated for a few minutes after the treatment to allow any side effects to wear off.
The patient should drink plenty of fluid to help toxins be flushed out of the system/
Stimulants (caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes etc) should be avoided.
The patient should allow a week or more between treatments to allow the body to flush out toxins liberated by the treatment.
If the patient has any skin irritations then a shower is advised, if this doesn’t help then medical attention should be sought.
The Indian head massage will give the patient various sensations such as:
- An energy surge
- A sense of relaxation
- A sensation of being comforted/pampered
